Tom Flood
In Tom's own words " I had my first close encounter with the movie industry courtesy of the theatrical agent May Blezard . May was credited with discovering Oliver Reed . The feisty lady had already retired when we met but she kindly put me in touch with the film artistes association .
I worked on various films including ' Saturn 3 ' ( 1980 ), ' Eye of the Needle ' ( 1981 ), Greystoke : The Legend of Tarzan, Lord of the Apes ' ( 1984 ), a couple of Bond films including playing a diver in ' A View to a Kill ' ( 1985 ) starring Grace Jones and spent five days in a tank full of stagnant water on the Pinewood lot !!! ' Brazil' ( 1985 ). And of course ' Star Wars Episode V : The Empire Strikes Back ' ( 1980 ) .
Whilst working on Brazil the stuntmen went on strike, myself and 3 other artists were offered an increase in wages to take their place . We were called Tuttle's men and worked closely with Tuttle, i.e. Robert De Niro, running up and down on top of Beckton gasworks cooling towers with guns and lots of smoke, plus two of the lads had to wear masks . The deck for the camera was shiny and slippery . you dare not look down because of the sheer drop on either side and was very very scary . We earned our money that day .
After joining a TV agent I found myself lucky enough to be offered a series of feature commercials. Playing a pilot for an Eastern Airlines ad, a guest at the Ambassador's ball ( Ferrero Rocher ) . A darts player Tetley Bitter, A mechanic for Fiat cars and the reporter for a Sunday Times commercial .
I later joined the Musical Theatre Company ' Katastrophe . The highlight of this period was playing at The Glastonbury Festival Earth Week and then the main festival itself . Singing in front of the travellers kids and new age offspring was both challenging and rewarding . Doubly so as I wrote the lyrics and music for the show, so if anybody needs a good song or lyric writer, give me a shout !
Now thanks to Rick at Sci-Fi Signers United I'm about to embark on a convention career signing pics and meeting all you good folk !!!
Peace earthlings !
