Richard started in the business in the 70's, his first film being the "The Thief of Baghdad" starring Sir Peter Ustinov and Terence Stamp. He went on to work on some of the biggest films made in the UK. "Batman" with Michael Keaton and Jack Nicholson,"Superman" with the unforgettable Christopher Reeve, "Flash Gordon" with Max Von Sydow and Brian Blessed.
Richard was one of the 6 original Ming guards and also a Hawk man. The original "Clash of the Titans" with Harry Hamlin, Tim Piggott-Smith and Dame Flora Robson and Bebo the Owl! The Bond film "Octopussy" with Roger Moore and "Never Say Never Again" with Sean Connery and of course "Star Wars, The Empire Strikes Back" he was a rebel soldier in the Ice Caverns, an unforgettable experience.
Some of the other films he worked are "The Bounty" with Sir Anthony Hopkins, Sir Lawrence Olivier and Mel Gibson."Who Framed Roger Rabbit" with Bob Hoskins and Christopher Lloyd. "Yanks" with Richard Gear and Vanessa Redgrave. "Ragtime" with the late, great James Cagney and Pat O'Brien. He was one of the witches in "Witches" with Angelica Houston and Rowan Atkinson. "The Awakening" with Charlton Heston. "Time Bandits" with Sir Ralph Richardson, John Cleese, Sean Conneryand Michael Palin. "Victor Victoria" with Julie Andrews, Robert Preston and James Garner.
He has also worked with music legends, Ringo Starr, Paul McCartney and George Harrison in "Give My Regards to Broad Street". David Bowie in "Absolute Beginners" and Tina Turner in one of her videos, he got to cycle her round on the back of his bike! Made for TV films include Sophia Loren in "Her Own Story".
He went to Italy on location for 4 weeks to work on a major American TV production - "The Last Days of Pompeii" with Ernest Borgnine, Sir Lawrence Olivier, Sir Anthony Quayle and Leslie Ann Down.
He has also worked on TV Series such as "The Minder", "The Sweeney", "The Professionals", "Jack the Ripper" with Sir Michael Caine, "Ellis Island" with Richard Burton, "Ike the War Years" with Robert Duvall and Lee Remick. "Reilly Ace of Spies" with Sam Neill, "Danger UXB" with Anthony Andrews and "A Man Called Intrepid" with David Niven and Michael York.
He has also had the privilege to work for some great directors such as Otto Preminger, John Slessinger, Sir David Lean, Ken Russell, Blake Edwards, Warren Beatty, Milos Forman, Sir Richard Attenborough and Jack Cardiff the cinematographer/director.
Richard has also worked behind camera as a location aid in the TV series "London's Burning", "Anna Lee" and "The Bill".
But on of the real highlights of working behind camera was on the TV series "A Piece of Cake" where he was on location in Eastbourne on the cliffs cuing into the air Spitfires and Messerschmidts to recreate the dog fights of WWII which was an incredible sight and a real privilege to be part of.
Other high points were working with actors: Oliver Reed, Christopher Lee, Peter Cushing, James Mason, Dudley Moore, Dame Wendy Hillier, Dame Diana Rigg, Robert Mitcham, Glenda Jackson, Sir Michael Horden, Joan Collins, Peter O'Toole, James Fox, Kenneth Moore, John Le Mesurier and the legendary Claudette Colbert who was in her 80's at the time and many, many more.
