Mickey Lewis
Mickey Lewis started his Sci Fi career by writing original Doctor Who fiction for BBC Books, penning the 3rd Doctor novel ‘Rags’ and ‘Combat Rock’ for the Second. Little did he know that a few years later he’d be appearing in the show as some of its most iconic monsters!
Doctor Who:
In Season 7’s Asylum of the Daleks, Mickey made his Dr Who debut, as not only one of the bronze Daleks, but the animated space corpse that wrestles with Amy Pond in the air lock of the crashed space craft.
This was followed by a photo feature for the cover of Entertainment Weekly as one of the new style Cybermen, posing with Matt Smith.
Mickey’s other appearances in Doctor Who are as follows:
In the Rings of Akhatan he was the Beast Man.
In the 50th Anniversary show, Day of the Doctor, he portrayed the Third Doctor.
In Series 8, he was back in the bronze Dalek for Into the Dalek.
For the pre Christmas mini-episode, Madame Vashta Investigates, he worked alongside the Paternoster Gang as a Victorian Policeman.
Series 9 saw him back as a bronze Dalek as well as a neck-breaking stint in the Special Weapons Dalek for the Magician’s Apprentice and the Witch’s Familiar, also playing a blue alien in the space bar scene of the former ep.
Leaving monsters behind for a moment, Mickey donned the Unit Soldier uniform for the Zygon Invasion/Inversion, chauffeuring the Doctor to Unit Base, as well as ending up zapped by a Zygon!
Series 10, and there was a new monster to play: a Space Corpse in Oxygen.
Down to Earth again, and Mickey wore no make up or costume for his role as the Harbourmaster monitoring the approach of the prison hulk in Lie of the Land.
Mickey finished Series 10 in a real climactic showdown for the Doctor Falls, climbing into two different Cyberman suits: the Nightmare in Silver-style Stealth Cyberman, and the Russel T Davies era heavier suit.
For the Xmas ep, Twice Upon a Time, Mickey played an Allied soldier, the first to cross No Man’s Land and shake hands with the German enemy.
Star Wars:
In the Force Awakens, Mickey played a First Order General, standing behind General Hux during his evil speech on the Star Destroyer.
In Rogue One, he stayed on the Dark Side, as a Fleet Trooper on Krennic’s craft.
For the Last Jedi, Mickey fled the Dark Side for once as a Resistance comms officer on Princess Leia’s cruiser, also surviving to escape in the smaller shuttle.
Mickey has also appeared as an Obliviated New Yorker in Fantastic Beasts, a helicopter navigator alongside Hugh Grant in the Man from Uncle, one of Freya’s soldiers in the Huntsman, Winter War. a zombie in The Girl with All the Gifts and the Rezort, a mercenary in Tarzan, a Nazi in JJ Abrams’ Overlord and a WW1 soldier in Wonder Woman.
